Letting Go!

The Lord has greatly blessed my husband and I with eight children to raise for his kingdom and I am so thankful to him for this blessing and answered pray in my life.

This morning in my devotion I was seeking Gods wisdom for some of the struggles we have been having in our home. Raising older children, children that are in their teen years, is new to us and has been quite a struggle and challenge.

Our three older children are ages 19- a precious daughter, 17- a precious son, and 14 another precious son. It is so hard to know how much to hold on and how much to let go.

We have homeschooled our children for the past 13 years and it has truly been a blessing. It has had its struggles but I have been so blessed to have my children around me seeing them grow and to become the wonderful young people that they have become.

Our oldest son is desiring to spread his wings and to get a job and to experience some of life's opportunities. My oldest daughter desires to stay closer to home. My fears are letting go and losing him to the World.

I have sadly watched so many young people in our church choose that path and it frightens me.

This morning in my devotions God led me to the story of Moses and his loving mother. She had to choose to trust God and to let Moses go into the care of the world (the princess of Egypt). As I read on the Bible tells us how God blessed her for her faith and Moses was returned to her arms and she had him for a little while longer.

Those few short years that she held him and taught him about God made a huge impact in his life. Moses did not forget who his people were.
God used Moses in a mighty way despite the fact that for the majority of his life he lived among the unsaved world.

How this spoke to my heart this morning. I prayed and asked God to help me to be a good mother and wife. I need to trust God that he will keep my children safe from the things of this world.

Dear Lord help me to have faith and to trust in you in all things.
My life verse is in Proverbs 3:5&6- Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct that path! How I need to remember these sweet words.

May God keep you all. God bless, Kathy

have you ever heard of the pearls?? you should read their stuff. The more you shelter your children, the more they crave the world. Is your husband home or out a lot. Does your husband spend time with your son, does he have bible time with him, do jobs with him?? is your home a happy, peacfully place, do you have fun times?? ask your self what are you doing in your home to make it a place where he wants to be. Why not start a home business for your son?? I see so many homeschool people that get a job and then don't fit in or the boys get sucked in to the girls out there. some thing to think about, who sheltered has he been?? and your daughter should see the world, at her age it is not to good to be home all the time with mother. what does she do all day?? watch the others clean, cook all day ?? I kept mine home with me and had here help with the others. When she was 20 she ran away with the first guy in chuch that showed an interst in her. We never let our kids do church things always kept them with us, never out in the world. My husband worked alot and when he was home he made himself busy! Now six of our 12 our in the world, having fun! all I can do is pray. The six at home we let do church things, vivst friends and see whats in the world. Glad to see you fixed your daughters post. You may want to do some lighter posts. People don't like to be preached to, lighten up alittle, your sre so serious and soooo somber. Do you have a lot of friends or do you walk around with a holyer our thou attuted??? maybe you should check you self out, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Dear Melissa,
I would like to answer some of your comments and questions that you emailed me.

First of all I did not post your last comment because my intentions on this blog is not to argue with people about their convictions or their beliefs.

My hearts desire is to be a blessing to others through the things that God is doing in my life.

Your comments come across so harsh and almost argumentative.

I did not write this post this morning to preach to anyone. I was just sharing what the Lord laid on my heart.

I am sorry that you have had so much sorrow in your life. I cannot imagine losing my children to the things of this world.

This is why I have been desperately seeking Gods wisdom in this matter of letting go wisely.

As for your comment about the Pearls I have read almost all of their books.

I never claimed to be a holier woman than anyone else. Believe me I know that there is no good in me.

I cannot raise my children up for the Lord apart from his Grace.

As for not posting your other comment I thought it funny that you felt you had to correct my daughter about the issue of wearing pants because she never mentioned the word pants ever in her post only mens apparel.

I Love the Lord and desire to please him. I hope that I can be used of him so that is why I started this blog.

May God bless you as you continue to seek his will for you and your family.
God Bless, Kathy

Hello. I got to your blog from money saving mom and wanted to leave a comment. First of all, your post on "letting go" touched my heart as that is exactly what I have been experiencing lately. My husband and I have 6 children and have homeschooled for 18 years now. I count it a privilege as well as a blessing for the Lord allowing us to have this precious time with our children. A few years ago, our oldest son (now 22) had the same desires your son is having. It was not easy to let him go and I too had the exact same fears of losing him to the world. We did have some guidelines for his employment and as we prayed the Lord opened the door for him to work at a business owned by someone at our church. Although there were several other men in our church that worked there, we still knew that temptations would come. As he began his employment, I prayed for him to be stedfast and unmoveable...and continue to do so. It is not easy to let a son go after you have been blessed to have them in the home all those years but I also know that it is good for a man to work and our sons must learn that whether it be through a home business (our 2 oldest boys had their own lawn business for several years before we moved) or other employment. I'm sure you know that also. :) As a mother, letting go will cause your prayer life to take on a whole new meaning. I truly feel that prayer has kept our sons (2 now working)from many things. They have not "passed every test"....some children have to learn things the hard way...but God has been so good to hear and answer this mother's prayers. They are both still faithfully serving the Lord in church with desires to continue to do so. Thank the Lord! I guess what I am trying to say is, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! Pray about his employment. Pray about the right kind of influences. Pray that he will be strong when faced with temptations. Pray that he will stay close to the Lord. Pray for their future mates, etc.
Don't stop praying.
Concerning your daughter, praise the Lord for godly young ladies whose heart is in the home. Sadly, that is becoming more rare but there are still some out there. Our oldest (24 yrs) had those same desires and faced much ridicule which was discouraging at times. I'm thankful to say that the Lord has abundantly blessed her faithfulness. If you haven't done so, check out her blog at www.courtneyscontemplations.blogspot.com
Well, I didn't mean to write a novel :), but I pray the Lord will use this in some way to encourage.

Dear Kathy,
Oh how this post touched my heart. I praise the Lord for your willingness to bear your heart with your blog readers. This is a lengthy comment and I am not sure where to start.
First I must say I love your blog!! It is wholesome, humble and Christ honoring. The very things I look for when reading a new blog site. If it does not contain these three elements, I leave that blog. My bible tells me in Philippians 4:8 That I am to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, things that are of good report, and if there by any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things. That is the standard that I use. I have added your site to my favorite list.
We have a 14 year old son and I recently started blogging myself. The Lord did not bless us with more children. We have had 3 miscarriages, one at 15 weeks. While I did not always understand, I trusted in His wisdom.(Proverbs 3:5) I have recently been made more aware of the world and its dangers by a situation in my Husbands teen Sunday School class. I won't go into the details but we believe the Lord used it to "heighten" our awareness. After the incident the Lord reminded me that there remains an enemy at large who is after our children. He is no respector of persons and and he walks about seeking whom he may devour.( 1Peter 5:8) I believe you are wise in your concerns. That is why God gave children, parents. Praise the Lord for your diligence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Lord has reminded us lately that our children are on loan to us from Him, and He loves them more than we do. We are to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, then at some point the God we serve must become their God and they must develop a desire to serve Him. We are not to train our children to be comfortable in the world. As Hebrews 11 instructs us, (were strangers and pilgrems on the earth.)
As a Woman the Bible clearly tells us in Titus 2 that the older are to instruct the younger. We have a generation of young girls that can not cook, clean, raise children or put their desires into subjection because they weren't at home watching Mother all day. Many times because Mother wasn't there to watch. From the content of your blog site it appears that your children will rise up and call you blessed!!!
We are imperfect parents, raising imperfect children but we have a perfect Heavnly Father to guide us all the way. He has written us a wonderful love letter and instructed us so clearly in His word.
I was sad to read the comment on your site. I probably would not have responded. It just shows the humbleness of your heart. I will pray for you and your family as you seek the Lord. He is Faithful!!!!
